Marijuana:What You Need To Know

What is Marijuana?

Marijuana is a type of drug, typically smoked, which is illegal in the United States. It is one of the world’s most popularly taken drugs. In fact, approximately 300 million people worldwide take marijuana. Due to its popularity, many drug treatment centers have opened which treat marijuana addiction. Common names of this drug include: grass, pot, weed, Mary Jane, dope, ganja, and reefer.

This drug can be found in the form of a plant called Cannabis sativa. A chemical in this plant, called THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), creates in the user an altered state of consciousness. The altered state that takes place occurs as a result of certain cellular reactions given off by the THC. Many drug treatment centers today seek to use their drug rehab to treat marijuana users who are negatively impacting their bodies through the use of this drug.
