Art Therapy

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is the expression of thoughts and feelings through the creative process of art. This expressive therapy has proven to be particularly helpful for those in alcohol rehab, bulimia treatment, trauma therapy and anorexia treatment. It is utilized as a vehicle for healing and fostering personal growth. Through artistic expression, reflection, and discussion of the artwork with an art therapist, patients are able to tap into their unconscious.

Art therapists, educated in both psychotherapy and art, utilize their experience and knowledge of psychology, spirituality, human development, clinical practice, and multicultural artistic traditions to elicit the healing potential of art.

Art Therapy assessments are typically included in the therapy process. These assessments include a series of instructed tasks which are later analyzed to gain further insight about the artist.
