Jan Wagman, PhD, MFT, CCTPPrimary Care Coordinator
Dr. Jan Wagman, a mental health industry veteran of twenty-three years, is licensed in the state of California as a Marriage Family Therapist and holds a California Life Time Single Subject Teaching Credential in Psychology and Government. She received her undergraduate degree from UCLA, MA as well as MFCC designations from Pepperdine, and her PhD from Ryokan College.
Dr. Wagman’s numerous experiences in the field of mental health include appearances on local TV and radio news stations as an expert in PTSD. She has completed stints in public schools, adolescent facilities, street front crisis offices, adult treatment facilities, and private practice, as well as working with adults who suffer from chronic mood disorders. Additionally, Dr. Wagman has seen duty in the field as a first responder to natural disasters. Some of her most memorable experiences have been on the streets working with Los Angeles gangs.
Dr. Wagman’s passion has always been to walk along side of those who have struggled with finding hope and a desire to heal- sometimes as a guide and at other times as simply a reminder that they are not alone.
Of her work at Casa Palmera, Dr. Wagman says, “Because I believe creativity heals, I include as much of the expressive arts as available. I also believe movement and nature offer much in the way of healing, and thus encourage my patients to throw a ball as well as just sit outside and meditate. I have seen Casa Palmera grow and expand over the years that I have been lucky enough to be here. I am continually in awe at the flexibility the administration provides its staff in trying out new ideas.”
