The city has a long history, established in 1869 and officially incorporated in 1912—in fact, many homes are included in La Mesa’s historic inventory. La Mesa is also home to one of the most unusual attractions in San Diego County. Many years ago, a network of public stairs was installed in order to help people travel between La Mesa neighborhoods.
