About Our San Diego Treatment Center

In her 1934 book, Seven Gothic Tales, author Karen Blixen (under her pen name, Isak Dinesen) wrote:

“Do you know a cure for me?”

“Why yes,” he said, “I know a cure for everything. Salt water.”

“Salt water?” I asked him.

“Yes,” he said, “in one way or the other. Sweat, or tears, or the salt sea.”

Salt water may be the cure for everything, but sun is also some of the best medicine – and both make San Diego an excellent location for clients to begin their journeys to recovery.

Although it’s imperative to choose a recovery center that is licensed and accredited, that can demonstrate its effectiveness and success rate, and that offers aftercare services, we at Casa Palmera also believe a behavioral health treatment facility’s location plays a vital role in helping people heal. For example, clients who attend a recovery facility in a perpetually cold, cloudy, stormy location could actually find their thoughts and moods negatively affected by the weather.

San Diego’s sunshine, ocean breezes and mild weather help promote a sense of well-being, health and happiness. Although there are more than a dozen treatment centers in San Diego, many of them are in metropolitan areas, far from the beach and smack in the center of city traffic and noise.

Unlike other San Diego treatment facilities, Casa Palmera provides a retreat from the world where our clients can focus on recovery.

Casa Palmera is located in Del Mar, California, just minutes north of San Diego. Our area enjoys average monthly temperatures of 72 degrees in August and 57 degrees in January. With roughly 146 sunny days and 117 partly cloudy days per year, San Diego wraps its residents and visitors in almost year-round sunshine and warmth.

Casa Palmera is also just minutes from the beach, where our clients will find a sandy stretch two miles long that provides the perfect place to walk, run, swim, sun, relax and read. Del Mar’s two coastal beach parks – Powerhouse Park and Seagrove Park – are perfect spots to picnic and take in the sunset.

But Casa Palmera clients don’t need to leave our tranquil treatment facility to find a serene environment. Our Spanish Mission-style building surrounds a large courtyard filled with lush plants, colorful flowers, and plenty of benches and café tables to soak in the sun or read in the shade. Our clients also enjoy lounging by the lily pad-dotted koi pond, walking through our gardens, and doing yoga on the lawn.

No other San Diego-area behavioral health treatment facility offers a comparable setting that is specifically designed to help our clients focus on their journey to recovery.

At Casa Palmera, we specialize in the treatment of alcoholism; drug abuse including cocaine and heroine addiction; trauma treatment for depression, mood disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder; and dual-diagnosis cases, when clients have both substance-abuse issues and mental disorders.

Casa Palmera’s unique approach to recovery takes the best of modern science and marries it with ancient healing techniques. Our facility has been accredited by the Joint Commission, and our diverse treatment plans include individual and group therapy, psycho-educational interactive groups and a wide variety of holistic treatments such as yoga, art therapy and meditation.
